SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Tricia & Eric Keipper

Every month we like to choose a member who has stuck out in some way, which is not an easy task since we have so many awesome athletes! For September we couldn’t just choose one, so we choose two…Eric and Tricia Keipper! This tenacious couple has been with CFR from the beginning and have been extremely dedicated members. It’s been awesome to see them progress together and keep pushing each other (especially during August’s 1500 air squat challenge!). Both Tricia and Eric show determination, growth, and the overall will to do better. We are incredibly proud to have this strong couple apart of the CFR family!

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

TRICIA: Handstand push-ups. I couldn’t do them months ago and now I can.

ERIC: 30 inch box jumps and (sadly) jump rope…not sure why but I never jumped rope as a kid.

How did you find CFR?  

TRICIA: I drive by every day on the way to/from my sons school and saw the sign out front.

ERIC: Just driving by.  Was bored with going to the gym by myself and not challenged so thought I’d give it a try.

 

Why do you train? 

TRICIA: I’ve always gone to the gym and really enjoy classes that involve weightlifting and strength training. Crossfit is a whole new level of challenge and fun for me.

ERIC: I like the variety that CrossFit provides.  It forces me to get our of my comfort zone and challenges me in new ways.  It’s unlikely I would have gone to another gym and attempted a handstand push up, but if it’s on the WOD I’m committed.

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR? 

TRICIA: I don’t know about a particular moment, but I really enjoy all the encouragement and motivation that we all give each other. It’s awesome to hear people cheering your name!

ERIC: Memorial Day Murph, it was great to see so many folks honoring a fallen hero.

What is your daily motivation to workout? 

TRICIA: I’m just trying to stay young and healthy. I don’t want to stop moving, so I don’t stop moving.

ERIC: Overall fitness, energy, stress relief, and sense of accomplishment. I don’t think humans were made to sit in a chair all day.

Favorite and least favorite movements? 

TRICIA: I really like workouts that involve wall balls and burpees (IKR!).  Rowing might be the death of me though.

ERIC: Favorite – not there yet, but I want to master a muscle up; Least Favorite – Burpee

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter? 

TRICIA: Well, I am a new crossfitter! I would say to keep challenging yourself but pace yourself as well.

ERIC: Anybody can do CrossFit and benefit from it.  Also, WODs with a female name are deceivingly tough.

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD? 

TRICIA: Eminem’s Lose Yourself. It’s a brilliant song!

ERIC: Kanye – Monster

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.  

TRICIA: I love to sing!

ERIC: I have an identical twin…but you can easily tell us apart due to CFR.

SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Chris Quimby

Chris Quimby is a Michigan native who works for Duke Hospital, fiancé to Kirsten (another awesome CFR athlete) and loving dog dad!  He was one of the first of our CFR Founding Members and has by far been one of our most dedicated. He rarely misses his routinely 6:30am class and always demonstrates a drive to better his fitness and his life. Chris goes above and beyond to work on certain skills that he may deem as his weakness. He is constantly welcoming and encouraging others to do their best as well. Chris, without a doubt, embodies what CrossFit is all about and definitely helps make CFR the community and family that it is today. We are extremely proud to call Chris a CFR athlete and friend! 


image2Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

First, getting back into shape. Now, it’s challenging myself during a WOD, especially the days I don’t want to get up early. The days I struggle the most, I feel more accomplished when I’m finished with the workout.

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?

I found CFR a long time before they were even open. I found some concept art online and was hoping that they would be opening soon. I had been to other boxes in the area, but geographically CFR made more sense. Plus, the coaching is different (way better) at CFR. I train because I love a challenge, both mentally and physically, on a daily basis.

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

Getting my first bar muscle up. It took 1.5 years!!

What is your daily motivation to workout?

There are many factors to this. One is the decline in the overall health of our society as a whole. I’d rather have fun paying to be healthy now, than paying for insulin, blood pressure medication, medical complications, etc…when I’m older.

The other is personal. As I mentioned in before, I’m always looking to challenge myself physically and mentally. What better way to do it than with a group of like-minded people suffering along side of you!?!

Favorite and least favorite movements?

Favorite movements would be pull-ups, hand stand walks, hand stand push ups (HSPU), anything image4gymnastic wise. Least favorite, intermediate running WODs and box jumps.

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter?

I tell everyone I see that comes in new, “just keep coming back.” All you have to do is walk through the door. The rest is easier, you have people here to workout with. Plus, you have the coaches and the community to help motivate you!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

Anything DMX, that dude always seems mad about something.

I can’t wear skinny jeans.

SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Jaqueline Roldan

We call her our Brazilian Badass but her real name is Jacqueline Roldan and she is actually one of the sweetest people we’ve ever met. Jackie is a 38 year old mother to three, a loving wife, and a resident of Rolesville, NC. She joined only two months ago but she quickly became apart of the CFR family! She gives it her all every time she walks through our doors and has shown some true grit during WODs. Jackie is also a huge encourager for other athletes and we admirer her greatly for it. If she finishes a workout, even though she may be exhausted, she will hop right up and start cheering and motivating others who are still working. Without a doubt we are proud to call this Brazilian Baddass a CFR athlete!

My proudest accomplishment at CFR was when I was able to do a wall handstand. It made me feel like a kid again.

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?

My husband and I had to make a run to the Rolesville Post Office and we saw that a new CrossFit gym was opening next door. I wanted to test myself. CrossFit to me is a challenge like no other. I’m striving to be the best, healthiest, and strongest me that I can possibly be. I know CrossFit will get me there.

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

My favorite moment was after my first week of CrossFit because that is when I realized that this is 100% what I wanted for myself. My least favorite moment is always the day before CrossFit because I’m so impatient and eager to get back in the box and complete the WOD.

What is your daily motivation to workout?

My daily motivation is watching videos of other CrossFitters. I enjoy watching the athlete’s positioning in weight lifting movements and seeing their progress. It gets me so amped when I watch the CrossFit games. Also know that I’ll be getting stronger and healthier with a great group of CrossFitters and CrossFit coaches at CFR.unnamed-1

Favorite and least favorite movements?

I love thrusters! And I hate running.

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter?

Never stop! Never quit! Stick with it!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

One song that gets me amped up is Rhianna’s “Work”.

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.

I like eating avocado with sugar. It’s a super uncommon combo but it’s my sweet treat!

SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Jay Thomason

unnamedJay Thomason is a kiteboarding, Rolesville native who runs his own business called Outdoor Pros. Jay came to us before we had opened and quickly joined as a CFR Founding Member. We could instantly tell that this guy was someone we wanted around our box. The first week we had met him, he was cracking jokes on Thomas and I like he had known us our entire lives. He’s incredibly supportive and friendly with everyone in class. And even though he shrugs “whatever” like he’s ready to just get the workout over with, he gives it 100% and more every time he’s here. He’s very modest but Jay has improved so much in CrossFit over the past couple of months and we are extremely proud to call him a CFR athlete.

How did you find CrossFit Rolesville and why do you train?

I was looking for a local workout facility that offered personalized workouts in a small group environment. I had a goal to lose weight and get in better shape for kiteboarding and surfing as wells as just being able to keep with my kids active lifestyle

Biggest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

Overall improvement in strength, balance, and flexibility

What is your motivation to workout?

Weight loss and improved health

What is your favorite movement?

Squats and rowing

Least favorite?
